In the age of digital technology, the importance of social networks and their media and commercial uses, presence, even omnipresence, on the web is now a leitmotiv! The doctrine of communication, exposure or promotion makes them, if not indispensable, at least unavoidable in view of their ease of access and the decline of conventional media. However, the state of mind claimed to have made their planetary successes, whether it was sold as "social, liberating or emancipating", turns out to be much more devious in many respects. Also, considering the turn of events and the evolving strategies of the giants of the sector (still recently...) and without "spitting in the soup of a modernity of which we are pure products", it is more than ever up to each of us to maintain blindly or by convenience the dependence and the enslavement or, on the contrary, to reappropriate a little bit of this freedom which makes their goodwill!
Personally, I wanted to experiment without prejudging too much. Certainly, in my own way, I have "moderately" played the game during these last two years. Although not a fan of FB, Insta or the "blue bird", I patiently went through the few steps of a "trial and error initiation" after having voluntarily cut myself off from these technologies for 20 years. The result, without endorsing or denigrating the model, only confirmed that a much better use can be made of the time spent on these media! At least, apart from the fact that one can cultivate the taste of the show, if putting oneself on stage, displaying one's daily life, one's moods or one's best profile in selfie mode meets a certain public, the personal development of the artist who lives only through the rendering on the screen takes a back seat, or even hinders the artistic expression. Of course, communicating towards those who are interested in you makes sense, but the way to get in touch is just as important to deliver an authentic version of an act of exchange and sharing beyond vile interests... Everyone is free to do as he or she pleases! However, it is better to ask oneself if the game is worth the candle, to act with full knowledge of the facts and consequences!
By extracting myself from the conventions and codes in place, I was never surprised by the little feedback I received by not giving in to any of the extortion attempts I was subjected to. So, when you are independent, when you don't gravitate around any circle and when you have only a very weak resonance chamber, it has become very difficult to communicate towards the outside! To stand out from the crowd has become almost impossible without making the "buzz" at the risk of overshadowing the projects of the artists and what inhabits them... Numerous by-products are also available to all those who will be seduced by the scores displayed as a certificate of results! Everyone is free to believe in the promises made, everyone is free, if they have the means, to finance a sub-business of the juicy business of online platforms... I don't have my name at the top of the poster! (I don't care!) I'm not on countless playlists (too bad!) I don't have access to the online "showcases" that are supposed to improve audiences. (I don't want to showcase myself...) I am not mentioned in the specialized press. (why would they?) No one plays my tracks on radios, no dj in my region or in the whole world knows me (I normally go under the radar, unless I only produce crap... it's possible, but there is worse!) My "fan-base" is the reflection of the echo that I can have after having made the effort to play the game a little bit, certainly in my own way... Bored and not inclined to delegate the promotional aspects for a fee, I play it solo! I go on my way, I walk alone... From time to time, I meet other "hikers" on the way... Sometimes, the meeting takes place... I appreciate people whose brain connections are not too dysfunctional... And if they appreciate what I do, so much the better, if not, there may be a lot of other things to share... So, thank you to those who show me interest! I will probably continue to use these media while not forbidding myself to take a critical look at the phenomenon, as much on its drifts as on its assets!
