"H A R D- or S O F T WARE!?"

The debate is on! However, is it still of any interest? Are you rather "hard" or "software"? In other words, do you prefer to touch, feel or even "caress" composite material, the original keys of a vintage synthesizer, the machine with its own ergonomics, real buttons, connections etc.? Or do you rather appreciate the "practical", "synthetic", multifunctional side of software that includes virtual instruments, drum machines, modulators, effects and other processes for transforming and managing sounds and their diffusion? And if you simply had the possibility, unless it is already the case for you, wouldn't your choice lean in favour of a clever mix of techniques that suits you as long as the result can satisfy you? And although you don't have to go into debt to acquire the bare minimum, it all depends of course on your budget!

In any case, let's close a debate that is not a debate at all! Both are only common and complementary ways of producing melodies composed thanks to the use of technologies that are still in full development... Technical means that are sometimes disproportionate, theoretically multiplying opportunities, innovation and experimentation... However, is the "hard/software" question still relevant, when the first question to be asked would be rather to know what stimulates and motivates musical composition...?

A need to express oneself, to create, to produce, to make, to exploit, to experiment, to seek to do good, to do good around oneself... In this sense, the artistic approach would then be enough to satisfy the criteria of a musical approach of sharing. The dynamics of sharing within a community that does not place the "artistic or musical performance" at the centre of attention, but rather emphasizes the non-dependence of the creative and experimental act on the sole progress of techniques, technologies or the latest version, the latest update of the tools used... The will to share and communion - let's specify here "secular" - prevails over any form of self-promotion as a beloved artist... Yet another subject for reflection, if not meditation! 🧠
